Hughes & Hughes Chardonnay
Wine
Mewstone Hughes & Hughes Chardonnay draws on a number of vineyards in southern Tasmania, including sites in the Derwent, Huon and Coal River Valleys.
The Hughes & Hughes label, made in small batches, allows winemaker Jonathan Hughes to experiment with techniques learned from his travels around the globe.
The fruit is predominantly whole bunch pressed, though in some vintages a portion is cold soaked on skins for several days. All the grapes are fermented in new and seasoned oak barrels.
The wine sees partial malolactic fermentation during maturation on lees, which lasts for five months. Bottling occurs without fining or filtration.
Bright straw green, Mewstone Hughes & Hughes Chardonnay has ripe acidity balanced by subtle oak and mouth filling lees texture. Cellaring potential is five years.
